China PCT applications rank third in 2016
China recorded extraordinary growth of international patent applications in 2016, increasing about 45 percent year on year, according to a report by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). China filed about 43,168 applications through Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2016, ranking third after the United States and Japan, and was expected to overtake the two countries within two years as the largest user of the PCT system, the WIPO said.
